On the outskirts of Besbre, Lapalisse is dominated by the tall silhouette of its chateau, like a triumphal path. In the Middle Ages the town was renowned as an important passage way in Bourbonnais. Today it is a dynamic town, a place to stay en route and one of the most scenic routes in France.

|  Notre-Dame de Saint Blaise | La Palice Castle Built between the XIth and XIIIth century, the feudal era, by Jacques the 1st of Chabannes in 1430. His grandson, Jacques II, Marshal of France built the Renaissance wing at the beginning of the XVIth century using pink coloured bricks, combining simplicity with elegance. This replaced the high wall connecting the fortified castle to the gothic style chapel, built around 1470.The fully furnished living rooms house numerous historical artifacts.
